Ripenso ai posti che ho visitato nei primissimi mesi di quest’anno, prima che l’emergenza coronavirus scoppiasse. Prima ancora che in Messico, di cui potete leggere il post che ho scritto cliccando qui, tra fine gennaio ed inizio febbraio sono stato in Sudafrica. Era la mia primissima volta: erano anni che desideravo fare questo viaggio e finalmente ero riuscito ad organizzarlo! Avevo infatti tenuto da parte una decina di giorni da dedicare alla scoperta di questo paese che sapevo essere incredibile, ma che si è rivelato dal vivo ancora più magico e capace di regalare emozioni forti.

Thinking about the places I visited in the first few months of this year, before the coronavirus emergency broke out. Before Mexico, about which you can read my post by clicking here, between late January and early February I travelled to South Africa. It was my very first time in this country: I had wanted to make this trip for years and finally I managed to organize it! I had in fact kept aside about ten days to discover this country that I knew was incredible, but which proved to be, in person, even more magical and capable of giving strong emotions.

Ho trascorso le prime quattro notti a Cape Town, scoprendo non solo una città fantastica ma anche dintorni che mi hanno lasciato senza fiato. Nella mia top 3 delle cose da non perdere in città ci sono sicuramente Boulders Beach, l’iconica spiaggia di sabbia e rocce di granito dove è possibile fare il bagno insieme ai pinguini: si trova nei pressi di Simon’s Town, nella penisola del Capo, e per l’appunto da qualche decennio ospita stabilmente una colonia di pinguini africani! Da lì il mio itinerario è proseguito raggiungendo Cape Point e Capo di Buon Speranza, tradizionalmente considerato come il punto più a sud del continente africano oltre che punto di incontro tra l’Oceano Atlantico e l’Oceano Indiano.

Altro highlight è sicuramente il quartiere delle pittoresche case colorate di Bo-Kaap ed il vicino District Six, dove è possibile visitare l’omonimo museo che racconta come questo quartiere sia stato raso al suolo nel periodo dell’apartheid… Esperienza assolutamente toccante e da non perdere.

Infine, la mia attività preferita in assoluto di Cape Town: la salita in funivia sulla sommità della Table Mountain, una delle 7 meraviglie del mondo naturale, per godersi il panorama sulla città dall’alto!

I spent the first four nights in Cape Town, discovering not only a beautiful city but also surroundings that left me breathless. In my top 3 of the things not to be missed in the city there are certainly Boulders Beach, the iconic sand and granite rocks where you can swim with the penguins: it is located near Simon’s Town, in the Cape Peninsula, and for just a few decades it has permanently hosted a colony of African penguins! From there my itinerary continued reaching Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope, traditionally considered to be the southernmost point of the African continent as well as a meeting point between the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean.

Another highlight is certainly the neighborhood of the picturesque colorful houses of Bo-Kaap and the nearby District Six, where you can visit the museum of the same name that tells how this neighborhood was razed to the ground during the apartheid period… An absolutely touching and not to be missed experience.

Finally, my absolute favorite activity in Cape Town: the cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain, one of the 7 wonders of the natural world, to enjoy the panorama of the city from above!

Salutata Cape Town (e il profondo sud-Sudafrica), ci spostiamo poi con un volo interno nella provincia più settentrionale, ricca di parchi e riserve naturali, la provincia del Limpopo. Trascorriamo le prime due notti nella città di Polokwane, presso il Fusion Boutique Hotel. Qui visitiamo il museo open-air di Bakone Malapa, villaggio culturale ricostruito dalla popolazione Bakone (uno dei clan della tribù Basotho) secondo lo stile  di 250 anni fa, dove è possibile imparare molto sulla loro cultura, sul loro stile di vita tradizionale ma anche sulle loro usanze contemporanee.

After leaving Cape Town (and the deep south-South Africa), we then move with an internal flight to the northernmost province, full of parks and nature reserves, the province of Limpopo. We spent the first two nights in the city of Polokwane, at Fusion Boutique Hotel. Here we visited the open-air museum of Bakone Malapa, a cultural village rebuilt by the Bakone population (one of the clans of the Basotho tribe) in the style of 250 years ago, where it is possible to learn a lot about their culture, their traditional lifestyle but also on their contemporary customs.

Then we headed for the next two nights to Entabeni Wildside Camp, a lodge nestled in the bush where you sleep in characteristic huts for an experience of absolute contact with nature. Here I can say that I had one of the most beautiful experiences of my whole life, the safari. Seeing animals such as giraffes, elephants, lions, cheetahs, zebras, hyenas, monkeys up close in an open jeep… It is simply breathtaking.

Giungiamo così alla terza ed ultima tappa dei miei dieci giorni in Sudafrica: Johannesburg. Qui ho trascorso le ultime tre notti del viaggio presso l’hotel 54 on bath, riuscendo a visitare anche alcune città vicine come Soweto e la capitale Pretoria.

A Johannesburg vi consiglio di visitare il quartiere Maboneng, uno dei quartieri riqualificati nell’ultimo decennio che ora ospita street art, gallerie d’arte, ristoranti e negozietti tipici. Per scoprire e capire meglio la storia del paese, invece, è da non perdere la visita al Museo dell’Apartheid che commemora la tristemente nota politica di discriminazione razziale istituita dal governo di etnia bianca e rimasta in vigore fino al 1994, quando, grazie al decisivo contributo di Nelson Mandela, nel Paese si tennero le prime elezioni completamente democratiche in cui tutti di ogni razza hanno potuto votare. Era il 27 Aprile e da allora ogni anno in questo giorno si celebra la Festa della libertà!

Thus we come to the third and final stop of my ten days in South Africa: Johannesburg. Here I spent the last three nights of the trip at the 54 on bath hotel, also managing to visit some nearby cities such as Soweto and the capital Pretoria.

In Johannesburg I recommend you visit the Maboneng district, one of the neighborhoods redeveloped in the last decade which now houses street art, art galleries, restaurants and typical shops. To discover and better understand the history of the country, however, you need to pay a visit to the Apartheid Museum that commemorates the sadly known policy of racial discrimination established by the government of white ethnicity and remained in force until 1994, when, thanks to Nelson Mandela, the first completely democratic elections were held in the country, in which everyone of every race was able to vote. This happened on April 27th and since then every year on this day they celebrate the Freedom Day!

Non potevo perdermi a Soweto il rito del braai, il barbecue sudafricano: assolutamente delizioso. Mentre a Pretoria ci tenevo tantissimo a vedere dal vivo la gigantesca statua di Nelson Mandela con le braccia aperte a simboleggiare l’unità del paese per cui si è sempre battuto.

I could not miss the ritual of braai, the South African barbecue, in Soweto: absolutely delicious. While in Pretoria I just really wanted t to see the gigantic statue of Nelson Mandela with open arms to symbolize the unity of the country he has always fought for.

Dei miei dieci giorni in Messico dello scorso febbraio, ricordo in questo momento il caldo, i colori e l’allegria che (ancora) si respirava nell’aria. Abbiamo organizzato questo viaggio per scappare dall’inverno europeo e andare alla scoperta dello Yucàtan, cuore archeologico del Messico e, al contempo, zona tra le più votate al turismo moderno.

My thoughts are bringing back to my latest trip to Mexico. Ten days during last February. I remember very well the heat, the colors and the joy that (still) was in the air. We have organized this trip to escape from the European winter and to discover Yucàtan, the archaeological heart of Mexico and, at the same time, one of the most voted areas for modern tourism.

Come prima tappa abbiamo scelto Tulum, sulla Riviera Maya. Tra storia e cultura, spiagge e giungla, gastronomia e artigianato locale, questa località è un gioiellino in grado di soddisfare le esigenze più disparate. E di non deludere proprio nessuno: da chi ricerca il puro relax in moderne hacienda dotate di ogni comfort, a chi preferisce boutique hotel a conduzione familiare, dove fare colazione nei grandi patio di case coloniali perfettamente restaurate. Noi abbiamo scelto Casa Pueblo: una struttura incantevole, con design molto curato e chic, a pochi passi dal centro e dai ristoranti e locali della città.

For the first stop we chose Tulum, on Riviera Maya. History and culture, beaches and jungle, cuisine and local craftsmanship: this location is a gem that can satisfy the most diverse needs. And cannot disappoint anyone: from those looking for pure relaxation in modern hacienda equipped with every comfort, to those who prefer family-run boutique hotels, where you can have breakfast on the large patios of perfectly restored colonial houses. We have chosen Casa Pueblo: an enchanting place, with a very nice and chic design, a few steps from the center and from the restaurants and clubs of the city.

La playa si trovava ad una decina di minuti di taxi ed era incredibile: un’infinita distesa di sabbia bianca perfetta per abbronzarsi, fare lunghi bagni per combattere il caldo (questa stagione è la più secca, con temperature roventi) ma anche scoprire alcune tra le più belle rovine maya. Ne ho approfittato di tutta questa bellezza per realizzare un progetto fotografico con uno dei miei brand di costumi preferito, Vilebrequin, di cui qui sotto potete intravedere qualche novità per la prossima stagione che ho indossato in anteprima durante questo viaggio in Messico.

The playa was about ten minutes away by taxi and it was incredible: an infinite expanse of white sand perfect for sunbathing, taking long baths to fight the heat (this season is the driest, with scorching temperatures) but also discovering some of the the most beautiful Mayan ruins. I took advantage of all this beauty to create a photographic project with one of my favorite swimwear brands, Vilebrequin, of which below you can see some new pieces for the next season.

Il nostro itinerario è proseguito allontanandoci dal centro, per addentrarci nella giungla e scoprire un altro lato, completamente diverso, di Tulum. Abbiamo soggiornato le successive tre notti a Casa Coyote, hotel eco-friendly che utilizza pannelli solari, estrae l’acqua dai canali sotterranei e mette a disposizione dei clienti le proprie biciclette per gli spostamenti. Qui i sensi si acuiscono. I suoni arrivano ovattati. Negli occhi solo il verde sfavillante della vegetazione che ti circonda.

Then it was time to move away from the center and enter the jungle to discover another completely different side of Tulum. We stayed the following three nights at Casa Coyote, an eco-friendly hotel that uses solar panels, extracts water from the underground canals and makes its bicycles available to customers for wandering around. Here the senses are sharpened. The sounds arrive muffled. In the eyes only the sparkling green of the vegetation that surrounds you.

Il nostro viaggio in Messico è proseguito da Tulum verso una nuova destinazione. Abbiamo affittato un’auto per dirigerci proprio nel cuore dello Yucatàn, nella città coloniale di Valladolid. Qui soggiorniamo al Coqui Coqui Meson de Malleville, un’elegante e raffinata residenza del 16esimo secolo perfettamente restaurata mantenendo i pavimenti con piastrelle in stile moresco, le pareti e i soffitti alti con le travi in legno originali. Ospita quattro suite, ognuna con la sua personalità.

After relaxing in the the jungle we rented a car to head right into the heart of the Yucatàn, in the colonial city of Valladolid. Here we stayed at Coqui Coqui Meson de Malleville, an elegant and refined 16th century home perfectly restored with original moorish tile floors, walls and high ceilings with wooden beams. It houses four suites, each with its own personality.

Il Coqui Coqui è un luogo dall’atmosfera unica. A pochi passi di distanza si trova anche l’omonima profumeria dove è possibile acquistare fragranze, profumi, oli e candele profumate prodotte da loro. L’arte profumiera da questa parti, infatti, ha solide radici: risale ai tempi della colonizzazione del Nuovo Mondo, quando a Valladolid si stabilirono monaci francescani che, insieme ai maya, iniziarono a raccogliere le piante. Più tardi, avrebbero iniziato a fornire alla Spagna le fragranze e i profumi più raffinati, realizzati con profumi unici dello Yucatán, ispirati dai frutti, dai fiori, dalle erbe e dai legni che si trovano da queste parti. Gli stessi che ora ispirano la collezione di fragranze firmata Coqui Coqui La Perfumeria.

Coqui Coqui is a place with a unique atmosphere. Near you can also find their perfumery where you can buy fragrances, perfumes, oils and scented candles made by them. Here the perfumery art has solid roots: it dates back to the times of the colonization of the New World, when Franciscan monks settled in Valladolid who, together with the Mayas, began to collect plants. Later, they would begin to provide Spain with the most refined fragrances and perfumes, made with unique perfumes from Yucatán, inspired by the fruits, flowers, herbs and woods found in these parts. The same ones that now inspire Coqui Coqui La Perfumeria fragrance collection.

Mescolarsi tra la gente nelle stradine colorate di Valladolid è assolutamente un must. Per vederle spoglie dovete svegliarvi molto presto al mattino oppure uscire durante la siesta!

Mingling with people in the colorful streets of Valladolid is absolutely a must. To see them bare you have to wake up very early in the morning or go out during the siesta!

A pochi chilometri dal centro di Valladolid si trova un altro piccolo paesino che merita assolutamente una tappa. Si chiama Uayma: qui spicca una chiesa dalle pareti colorate di una bellezza unica.

A few kilometers from the center of Valladolid there is another small village that absolutely deserves a stop. It is called Uayma: here stands a church with colored walls of a unique beauty.

Ultimo giorno del viaggio è stato dedicato alla visita dell’imponente sito archeologico maya di Chichén Itzà. Già Patrimonio dell’Umanità UNESCO, nel 2007 è stato inserito tra le “sette meraviglie del mondo moderno”. Non potevo che rimanere assolutamente estasiato, nonostante il caldo terribile, davanti alla piramide di Kukulkàn.

The last day of the trip was dedicated to visit the imposing Mayan archaeological site of Chichén Itzà. Already a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in 2007 it was included among the “seven wonders of the modern world”. In spite of the terrible heat, I could not remain absolutely entranced in front of the pyramid of Kukulkàn.

Si conclude così il mio viaggio da Tulum a Valladolid, tra passato e presente. Innamorato del Messico, mi auguro di poterci tornare molto presto.

Il titolo giusto sarebbe “Le mille e una cose da fare a Dubai” ma purtroppo in cinque giorni di permanenza è praticamente impossibile fare e vedere proprio tutto. L’emirato ha molto da offrire, davvero molto più di quello che si possa immaginare. Dai musei agli spettacoli, dalle spiagge alle gite nel deserto… Ma partiamo subito con la mia lista!

The right title for this post should be “One thousand and one things to do in Dubai” but unfortunately in five days it is almost impossible to do and see every single thing. The emirate has a lot to offer, a lot more than no-one can imagine. From museums to shows, from beaches to desert sand… Let’s start with my list right away!

1. Al Seef District. In una città estremamente moderna e avanguardistica, questo è l’unico quartiere in cui è rimasto ancora qualcosa di antico (e unico). Piccoli edifici dallo stile tipicamente arabo, i souk, le prime moschee… Tutto qui ruota intorno al Creek, il fiume che attraversa la città per circa 10 km e che è il luogo dove i primi abitanti si sono insediati.

1. Al Seef District. In an extremely modern and avant-garde city, this is the only neighborhood where there is still something ancient (and unique). Small buildings with a typically Arab style, the souks, the first mosques… Everything here goes around the Creek, a river that crosses the city for about 10 km and that is the place where the first inhabitants settled.

Qui potrete soggiornare in un delizioso boutique hotel che si chiama Zabeel House Al Seef e si trova proprio affacciato sul Creek.

2. City Walk. E’ uno dei pochi luoghi pedestrian-friendly di tutta Dubai. Si tratta di un innovativo centro commerciale a cielo aperto, con boutique, ristoranti e hotel tra cui il bellissimo Hotel La Ville in cui ho soggiornato per un paio di notti. Spazi verdi, una gigantesca fontana e coloratissimi murales rendono questo quartiere molto diverso dal resto della città, conferendogli un’atmosfera davvero particolare.

2. City Walk. It is one of the few pedestrian-friendly places in all of Dubai. An innovative open-air shopping center, with boutiques, restaurants and hotels including the beautiful Hotel La Ville where I stayed for a couple of nights. Green spaces, a gigantic fountain and colorful murals make this neighborhood very different from the rest of the city, giving it a very special atmosphere.

3. Museum of Illusions. Giochi di prospettive e illusioni ottiche: il posto giusto per trascorrere una mattinata un po’ diversa, nel mio caso di pioggia. Sicuramente uno dei musei più originali, un qualcosa che a Dubai non ti aspetti!

3. Museum of Illusions. Games of perspectives and optical illusions: the right place to spend an unusual different morning, in my case a rainy morning. Surely one of the most original museums and something you definitely don’t expect in Dubai!

4. Brunch al Palace Downtown. Per un’esperienza da sogno in un hotel cinque stelle lusso vi consiglio di prenotare qui un tavolo per l’ora del brunch! Il luogo è da fiaba e c’è anche una vasta selezione gluten-free!

4. Brunch at Palace Downtown. For a dreamy experience in a luxury five-star hotel I recommend you to book a table here for brunch time! The place is a fairy tale and there is also a huge gluten-free selection!

5. Gita in  mongolfiera. Puntare la sveglia alle 4 del mattino per raggiungere il deserto? Ne vale assolutamente la pena! Ho fatto un’incredibile esperienza di volo e mi sono emozionato alla vista dell’alba (peccato solo per il cielo molto nuvoloso, perché il giorno precedente c’era stata pioggia). In più con Baloon Adventures Dubai a bordo c’è un ospite speciale: un falco.

5. Hot Air Balloon ride. Waking up at 4 am to reach the desert? It is absolutely worth it! I had an incredible flying experience and got so excited at dawn (unfortunately the sky was very cloudy, because the day before it rained a lot). In addition, if you fly with Baloon Adventures Dubai there is a special guest on board: a hawk.

6. Safari nel deserto. Potete organizzare via jeep o a bordo di cammelli e farvi accompagnare fino ad un’autentica tenda beduina dove vi verrà servita la colazione con immancabili thé caldo e datteri: è una delle esperienze assolutamente da non perdere, perché i colori del deserto di Dubai ti riempiono il cuore.

6. Desert Safari. You can organize it by jeep or on board of camels and be escorted to an authentic Bedouin tent where breakfast will be served with hot tea and dates: it is one of the absolutely not to be missed experiences, because the colors of the Dubai desert will fill your heart with joy.

7.  The Green Planet. Una foresta pluviale tra i grattacielo di Dubai? Io non riuscivo a immaginarmela, finché non l’ho vista. Nella zona del City Walk si inserisce nella skyline della città un grattacielo che ospita al suo interno migliaia di piante ed animali tra cui boa, bradipi, tucani e pappagalli di ogni genere.

7. The Green Planet. A rainforest among Dubai’s skyscrapers? I couldn’t imagine until I saw it. In the City Walk area, a skyscraper is inserted into the city skyline housing thousands of plants and animals including boas, sloths, toucans and parrots of all kinds.

8. Ristorante The Bay al Mandarin Oriental. Per fare un’altra esperienza da sogno vi consiglio di visitare questo incredibile hotel sulla spiaggia di Jumeirah. Salite al Ristorante The Bay per ammirare una vista incredibile sulla città e assaggiare ottimi piatti di sushi.

8. The Bay Restaurant at Mandarin Oriental. For another dreamy experience, I recommend you visit this amazing hotel located on Jumeirah beach. Book a table at The Bay Restaurant to admire an incredible view of the city and excellent sushi dishes.

9. Show Le Perle By Dragone. Se vi piacciono gli spettacoli questo non potete davvero perdervelo. E’ un qualcosa di incredibile: dalle scenografie ai giochi d’acqua alle acrobazie dei bravissimi artisti… Davvero unico!

9. Attend a Le Perle By Dragone show. If you like shows, you can’t really miss it. It’s something incredible: from the sets to the water games to the acrobatics of the many talented artists… A really unique experience!

10. Bluewaters. E’ un’ isola artificiale e parzialmente pedonale di recente costruzione, che ospita il nuovissimo Caesars Palace Bluewaters Dubai, inaugurato proprio la sera della mia permanenza con la partecipazione speciale dello chef Gordon Ramsay e di Celine Dion. E’ stato un onore essere ospite della serata!

10. Bluewaters. It is a newly built artificial and partially pedestrian island, which houses the brand new Caesars Palace Bluewaters Dubai, inaugurated on the evening of my stay with the special appearance of chef Gordon Ramsay and singer Celine Dion. It was an honor to be a guest of the evening!

Bluewaters è sede di Ain Dubai, la ruota panoramica più grande al mondo.

Bluewaters is home to Ain Dubai, the largest ferris wheel in the entire world (210 meters high).

Altro ristorante molto carino in cui vi consiglio di fare tappa mentre vi trovate a Bluewaters è il Ristorante Alici. La cucina è italiana, di pesce, e il design e le ceramiche sono ispirate e realizzate nella mia amata costiera amalfitana. Non potevo non provarlo!

Another very nice restaurant in which I suggest you to stop in Bluewaters is Alici Restaurant. The cuisine is Italian and the food, the design and the ceramics are inspired by my beloved Amalfi coast. I had to try it and I loved it!

Così si conclude il mio elenco delle 10 cose da fare a vedere per una Dubai anti-convenzionale. L'articolo 10 cose da fare e vedere a Dubai sembra essere il primo su DECISIONS ARE DECISIONS.

Oggi condivido con voi un viaggio molto particolare, avvenuto in occasione della partita di Supercoppa italiana. Quest’anno la location scelta per l’incontro è stata l’Arabia Saudita, in particolare lo stadio King Abdullah Sports City di Jeddah. Ed io sono stato invitato dal Ministero dello Sport del paese a prendere parte ad una experience di qualche giorno alla scoperta della città!
Vorrei iniziare dicendovi che attualmente richiedere il visto turistico per visitare l’Arabia Saudita  non è possibile: l’ingresso è consentito solo viaggi di affari, ricongiungimenti familiari, transito aeroportuale o pellegrinaggio. Io sono stato tra i primi ad ottenerlo proprio in vista di questa occasione speciale, ma mi hanno assicurato che presto, grazie al piano di modernizzazione Vision 2030 voluto dal figlio del re Salman, tornerà la possibilità di richiederlo.

Today I want to share with you a very special trip I had to see the 2019 Italian Super Cup soccer match. This year the location chosen for the match was Saudi Arabia, in particular the King Abdullah Sports City stadium in Jeddah. And I was invited by the General Sports Authority to attend the event and to stay for a few days in the city to discover it!
I would like to start by telling you that it is not possible to apply for a tourist visa to visit Saudi Arabia: entry is allowed only for business trips, family reunions, airport transit or pilgrimage. I was among the first to get there due to this special occasion, but they assured me that soon, thanks to the Vision 2030 modernization plan wanted by the son of King Salman, they will restore the possibility to request it.
To reach Saudi Arabia I flew with Turkish Airlines from Milan Malpensa to Jeddah via Istanbul (the journey takes about 8 hours).

Jeddah è la seconda città più grande dell’Arabia Saudita dopo Riad, la capitale. E’ ormai a tutti gli effetti da considerare come una metropoli, ancora oggi in fase di grande cambiamento, e questo si percepisce: è in fase di costruzione il futuro grattacielo più alto del mondo e c’è molto fermento nella zona nuova della città. Per scoprire la sua vera essenza, però, ho trascorso una intera giornata passeggiando nella città vecchia. Il quartiere Al Balad è stato riconosciuto nel 2014 come sito del patrimonio mondiale UNESCO ed è il luogo giusto per entrare a contatto con la cultura del posto e ammirare l’architettura in stile ottomano, con le le tipiche abitazioni in pietra corallina ed i grandi balconi in legno.

Jeddah is the second largest city of Saudi Arabia after Riyadh, the capital. It is now effectively considered a metropolis, still undergoing major changes, and this is very well perceived: the world’s tallest skyscraper is under construction and there is a lot going on in the new area of the city. To discover its true essence, however, I spent a whole day strolling through the old city. The Al Balad district was recognized in 2014 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the right place to get in touch with the culture of the place and admire the Ottoman-style architecture, with its typical coral-stone houses and large balconies made of wood.

Ho trascorso una magica notte nel deserto, ma prima una gita a cavallo tra le dune.

I had the chance to spend a magical night in the desert after a horse ride in the dunes.

Jeddah si affaccia sul Mar Rosso: ci sono tantissime spiagge tutte da scoprire (oltre alla sua meravigliosa barriera corallina). Oia Beach è una di queste: è situata sulla Silver Beach, una spiaggia privata pensata per i turisti occidentali la cui sabbia, come il nome il nome lascia intuire, è color argento ed è lambita da acque turchesi. Bello trascorrere qui qualche ora di relax e lavorare un po’ sulla mia abbronzatura!

Jeddah overlooks the Red Sea: there are plenty of beaches to discover (in addition to its wonderful coral reef). Oia Beach is one of these: it is located on Silver Beach, a private beach designed for western tourists whose sand, as the name the name suggests, is silver and is lapped by turquoise waters. Nice to spend a few hours here relaxing and working on my tan!

Infine il motivo principale del mio viaggio in Arabia Saudita: la partita di Supercoppa italiana 2019 che ha visto la sfida Juventus-Milan. Che esperienza bellissima poterla vedere dalla Tribuna Gold!

Finally, the main reason for my trip to Saudi Arabia: the 2019 Italian Super Cup match, which saw Juventus against Milan. What a wonderful experience to be able to see it from the Gold Tribune!

Chi di voi mi segue su Instagram @robertoderosa, già saprà che quest’estate ho trascorso parte delle mie vacanze tra Istanbul e Beirut… Ed è proprio della capitale del Libano di cui oggi voglio finalmente parlarvi: una città particolare, complessa e ricca di contrasti.
Innanzitutto, parliamo di come raggiungerla. Io ho scelto Pegasus Airlines, compagnia che vola quotidianamente da Milano e Roma per Beirut con scalo a Istanbul. Comodissimo per visitare entrambe le città, come ho fatto io!

If you follow me on Instagram @robertoderosa, you may already know I spent my summer vacay between Istanbul and Beirut… About this last one, the capital of Lebanon, I want to finally talk to you: a particular and complex city, very rich of contrasts.
First of all, let’s talk about how to reach it. I chose Pegasus Airlines, a company that flies daily from Milan and Rome to Beirut with a stopover in Istanbul. Very convenient to visit both cities, as I did!

Beirut ha fascino davvero particolare, direi unico. La parte storica della città ha subito enormi danni durante gli anni della guerra civile ed è stata in parte ricostruita, ciononostante è rimasto ancora qualche luogo interessante di quelli originari. Ci sono palazzi del periodo ottomano che sono stati restaurati e alcuni quartieri caratteristici con piccole vie piene di vita, negozi e bar. Passeggiando per il centro è facile notare come ci siano palazzi completamente restaurati con a fianco altri ancora completamente bombardati o crivellati dai proiettili. Da non perdere il Gran Serraglio, che oggi ospita il palazzo del governo.

Beirut has a very special charm, I would say unique. The historical part of the city suffered enormous damage during the years of the civil war and was partly rebuilt, nevertheless there are still some interesting original places. There are buildings from the Ottoman period that have been restored and some quaint neighborhoods with small streets full of life, shops and bars. Walking through the center it is easy to notice that there are completely restored buildings side by side others, still completely bombed or riddled with bullets. Do not miss the Grand Serail, which today houses the government building.

Per capire meglio la cultura libanese, merita un visita il Sursock Museum. Proprio adiacente al museo d’arte moderna e contemporanea si trova il ristorante Villa Linda Sursock, dove ogni domenica si tiene il Sunday Buffet… Un appuntamento da non perdere!

To better understand the Lebanese culture, the Sursock Museum is worth a visit. Right next to the modern and contemporary art museum is the Villa Linda Sursock restaurant, where every sunday they held a well-known Sunday Buffet… An event not to be missed!

Tornando ai grandi contrasti architettonici di Beirut, in questa città multi-etnica e multi-religiosa è facile imbattersi in una moschea situata proprio accanto ad una chiesa. Come la splendida moschea Mohammad Al-Amin, la cui cupola turchese è ben visibile in ogni parte del centro storico, costruita proprio a fianco della magnifica cattedrale greco-ortodossa di San Giorgio. Entrambe da visitare assolutamente!

Returning to the great architectural contrasts of Beirut, in this multi-ethnic and multi-religious city it is easy to come across a mosque located right next to a church. Like the majestic Mohammad Al-Amin mosque, whose turquoise dome is clearly visible throughout the historic center, built right next to the magnificent Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. George. Both are a must-visit!

Da non perdere una passeggiata sulla Corniche, il lungomare di Beirut. Partendo da downtown, si devono percorrere circa cinque km (a piedi, in bicicletta oppure sui sui pattini a rotelle, come sono soliti fare i libanesi) per raggiungere uno dei simboli della città, sicuramente il mio preferito. Si tratta degli Scogli dei Piccioni… Ora, ditemi se non sembrano i Faraglioni di Capri!

Don’t miss the Corniche, Beirut’s seafront promenade. Starting from downtown, you have to cover about five kilometers (on foot, by bike or on roller skates, as the Lebanese do) to reach one of the symbols of the city, certainly my favorite. It’s called Pigeons’ Rocks… Now, tell me if they do not look like the Capri’s Faraglioni!

Vi consiglio di arrivare per l’ora del tramonto, in modo da ammirare il sole che scende verso l’orizzonte fino a scomparire proprio dietro agli scogli.

I suggest you to arrive at sunset, in order to admire the sun that goes down to the horizon until disappearing just behind the rocks.

Se avete a disposizione un giorno extra, consiglio di organizzare una gita a Byblos. E’ un’antichissima città situata 40 km a Nord di Beirut, addirittura tra le più antiche al mondo ancora abitata (i primi insediamenti risalgano al 7.000 a.C.) e infatti dichiarata patrimonio mondiale dell’umanità UNESCO. Ha un bellissimo sito archeologico che si affaccia sul mare: consiglio vivamente di organizzare una visita guidata al castello per ascoltare la sua lunga ed incredibile storia.

If you have an extra day, I suggest you organize a trip to Byblos. It is an ancient city located 40 km north of Beirut, among the oldest in the world still inhabited (the first settlements date back to 7,000 BC) and in fact declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has a beautiful archaeological site overlooking the sea: I highly recommend to organize a guided tour of the castle to hear its long and magical history.

Durante il mio viaggio a Beirut ho soggiornato all’Hotel Le Bristol, meraviglioso hotel a cinque stelle dove sentirsi coccolati in ogni momento a partire dalla prima colazione in camera!

During my trip to Beirut I stayed at the Hotel Le Bristol, a wonderful five-star hotel where you can feel pampered at any time from breakfast in your room!

Infine una curiosità. I giovani libanesi sono bilingui: parlano benissimo sia l’arabo, la lingua ufficiale, che il francese, la lingua che è diventata più diffusa, ma anche l’inglese. Questo perché prediligono le lingue internazionali, quelle più parlate nel mondo. Relazionarsi e fare amicizia è davvero facile!

Finally a curiosity. The young Lebanese are bilingual: they speak very well both Arabic, the official language, and French, the language that has become more widespread, but also English. This is because they prefer international languages, the most spoken in the world. Relating and making friends is really easy!

E’ un periodo in cui non sono mai stato fermo, tra fashion week, eventi e un breve saluto alla mia Napoli. Ma ora sono rientrato a Milano e finalmente riesco a condividere qui sul blog un nuovo post.
Il mio ultimo viaggio è stato in Oman: ho trascorso cinque giorni alla scoperta dei paesaggi, della cultura e delle tradizioni omanite. E ora vi spiego cinque buoni motivi per cui vi verrà voglia di prenotare subito un viaggio!

The last was a period in which I’ve traveled full-time: fashion weeks, events and a few day off in Naples with my family. But now I’m back in Milan and finally I can share a new post here on the blog.
My last trip was in Oman: I spent five days discovering Omani landscapes, culture and traditions. So now I am telling you five good reasons why you will want to book a trip asap!

I monti Hajar.
Le montagne dell’Oman offrono scorci spettacolari: tra balconi panoramici sui canyon e distese di rocce color ocra e grigio, ogni tanto si riescono ad intravedere falaji (canali scavati nella montagna che portano l’acqua potabile fino alle oasi e ai villaggi). Nella foto mi trovo sulle pendici di Jabal Akhdar, dopo una passeggiata in una torrida giornata di ottobre (attenzione alle temperature che salgono facilmente oltre i 40°C).
Per una esperienza esclusiva vi consiglio di soggiornare all’Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort, l’hotel a cinque stelle più alto del Medio Oriente. Si trova a quota duemila metri e vanta una vista panoramiche sulle montagne: non perdetevi il bagno al tramonto dalla loro infinity pool!

Hajar mountains.
The Omani mountains offer spectacular views: between panoramic balconies on the canyons and expanses of ocher and gray rocks, sometimes you can catch a glimpse of falaji (channels dug into the mountain that bring drinking water to the oases and villages). In the picture I find myself on the slopes of Jabal Akhdar, after a walk in a hot October day (pay attention to temperatures rising easily over 40° C).
For an exclusive experience I recommend staying at Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort, the highest five-star hotel in the Middle East. It is located at an altitude of two thousand meters and boasts a panoramic view of the mountains: do not miss a dip at sunset in their infinity pool! 

I palmeti di Nizwa.
Antica capitale dell’Oman, si trova in una grande oasi. Salite sulla torre di guardia localizzata all’interno del forte di epoca seicentesca (riconoscibile per il suo color ocra). Da lassù potrete ammirare una vista incredibile sui palmeti. Si tratta di palme da dattero: in Oman ne esistono 100 tipi diversi e spesso vengono offerti insieme ad una tazza di thè o di caffè aromatizzato al cardamomo come benvenuto!

Ancient capital of Oman, it is located in a large oasis. Climb on the watchtower located inside the seventeenth-century fort (recognizable by its ocher color). From up there you can admire an incredible view of the palm groves. They are date palms: in Oman there are 100 different types of dates and they are usually offered together with a cup of tea or coffee flavored with cardamom as a welcome sweet!

Il deserto Sharqiyah e le dune Wahiba Sands.
La grande distesa sabbiosa di Sharqiyah occupa il centro del Paese. Le dune si succedono per svariati chilometri, raggiungendo anche i 150 metri d’altezza. Si chiamano così in quanto popolate dalla tribù beduina Wahiba. Questo è il deserto più facilmente accessibile dell’Oman, ed è anche quello dove si può campeggiare liberamente. Per una esperienza luxury provate il Desert Night Camp: un campo tendato che, seppur in muratura, si inserisce magicamente nel contesto. Qui si dorme sotto le stelle, in eleganti tende dotate di ogni comfort. Due sono le escursioni da non perdere: quella in fuoristrada al tramonto e quella sul dorso dei cammelli!

The Sharqiyah desert and the Wahiba Sands.
The large sandy expanse of Sharqiyah occupies the center of the country. The dunes follow each other for several kilometers, even reaching 150 meters in height. They are called Wahiba Sands because they are populated by the Bedouin Wahiba tribe. This is the most easily accessible desert in Oman, and is also where you can camp freely. For a luxury experience try the Desert Night Camp: a tented camp built with solid walls and a double tented roof, but that magically fits into the context. Here you can sleep under the stars, in elegant tents equipped with every comfort. There are two excursions not to be missed: the off-road at sunset and the one on the back of the camels!

Su questa spiaggia è possibile, in determinati periodi dell’anno, veder nascere le tartarughe, ammirarle correre sulla sabbia fino a raggiungere le acque dell’oceano. E’ stato il momento più emozionante in assoluto di questo viaggio. Unico lato negativo: bisogna alzarsi prestissimo, troppo. Alle 4.

On this beach it is possible, at certain times of the year, to see the newborn turtles, admire them running on the sand until reaching the ocean’s waters. It was the most emotional moment of this trip. Only downside: you have to get up very early. At 4 a.m.

Muscat.
Last but not least, la capitale del sultanato. Primo luogo che ho visitato è stata la moschea Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, una delle poche del Medio Oriente aperta anche ai non musulmani. Di una imponenza e di una bellezza da mozzare il fiato. Il salone principale è realizzato con pareti di marmo di Carrara, ha al centro un enorme lampadario in cristalli Swarovski ed il pavimento interamente ricoperto da un tappeto persiano di ben 4.200 metri quadrati, nientemeno che realizzato a mano! Interessante poi la visita di Amouage, il laboratorio che produce il profumo più costoso del mondo! Al visitor centre si scoprono e si annusano gli oli essenziali di 120 tra piante e spezie che sono impiegate per la sua produzione. A conclusione di una splendida giornata, mi sono goduto il tramonto dalla meravigliosa piscina del mio hotel. Il The Chedi Muscat è situato lungo l’Oceano, ed è un luogo di pura bellezza: l’architettura, l’arredamento e l’atmosfera in generale del luogo mi hanno incantato.

Muscat.
Last but not least, the capital of the Sultanate. The first place I visited was the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, one of the few in the Middle East open to non-Muslims. Breathtaking. The main hall is made of Carrara marble walls, has a huge chandelier in Swarovski crystals in the center and the floor entirely covered with a Persian carpet of 4,200 square meters, none other than handmade! Interesting then the visit of Amouage, the laboratory that produces the most expensive perfume in the world! At the visitor center we discovered and smelled the essential oils of 120 plants and spices that are used for its production. At the end of this wonderful day, I enjoyed the sunset from the wonderful pool of my hotel. The Chedi Muscat is located along the Ocean, and is a place of pure beauty: the architecture, the decor and the atmosphere in general of the place have enchanted me.

Se vi state chiedendo come arrivare in Oman dall’Italia o dall’Europa, la compagnia di bandiera Oman Air offre voli notturni che partono quotidianamente da molte capitali europee. All’andata ho preso il volo Parigi-Muscat che dura appena sette ore, mentre al ritorno ho volato su Milano in sei ore.
Un enorme grazia a Experience Oman per avermi permesso di scoprire questo meraviglioso Paese.

Sono ancora in California, ho appena lasciato Palm Springs in direzione Los Angeles. Si è appena concluso il primo weekend del Coachella Music Festival 2018, uno dei place to be in questo mese di aprile. Come fare per andarci e cosa è successo? Ora vi racconto tutto.

I’m still in Cali, just left Palm Springs off to Los Angeles. The first weekend of Coachella Music Festival 2018, one of the place to be during this month of April, has just ended. How to get there and what happened? I am telling you everything.

Prima cosa da fare è procurarsi i biglietti. Sul punto troverete più scuole di pensiero: chi li acquista non appena vanno in prevendita, ovvero dal mese di giugno dell’anno precedente, e chi li acquista quando vengono aperte le vendite online (quest’anno mi pare a gennaio). Normalmente vanno sold out in poche ore, ma si trova il modo di acquistarli anche molto più sotto data. Poiché non potete modificare il nome del biglietto, il mio consiglio è di essere più che certi di poterci andare, prima di comprare i biglietti. Quale biglietto acquistare? Il VIP Pass, senza ombra di dubbio. Vi permette l’accesso al sottopalco e alle aree riservate con chioschi, bagni e un cono d’ombra. Tenete a mente che vi troverete in mezzo al deserto, quindi vi farà piacere potervi riparare dal sole all’ombra di una palma, ma ricordate anche che vi starete fino a notte fonda, quindi meglio vestirsi a strati e non dimenticare la bandana per ripararvi il volto dalle nuvole di sabbia.

The first thing to do is get the tickets. You can buy them as soon as they go on presale, in June of the previous year, or when they open the online sales (this year I think it happened in January). Normally they go sold out in a few hours, but there is always a way to buy them even much later. Since you can not change the ticket name, my advice is to be more than sure that you can go, before buying tickets. Which ticket to buy? The VIP Pass, without a doubt. It allows access to the area located adjacent to the main stage and other restricted areas with bars, restrooms and areas in the shade of a tree. Keep in mind that you will be in the middle of the desert, so you absolutely need to shelter from the sun in the shade of a palm tree, but remember that you will stay there until late at night, so better to dress in layers and do not forget a bandana to cover your face from the sand clouds.

Per lo stay si può scegliere se dormire nel camping del Coachella oppure in un hotel o una villa, come ho fatto io, nella vicinissima Palm Springs. Io dico che è difficile rinunciare per un intero weekend ad un bagno privato. Da Palm Springs si trova facilmente un servizio navetta (a pagamento) per andare e tornare dal festival. Ma il principale motivo per cui scegliere Palm Springs è un altro: per gli eventi. I party incominciano dalla tarda mattinata e vanno avanti a oltranza fino all’ora di prendere la navetta. I più in di quest’anno? Spero li abbiate avete visti sulle mie Instagram Stories @robertoderosa! Sono stati il party per l’annuncio della prossima collaborazione Moschino x H&M, quello alla Furla Mansion e il Levi’s Pool Party.

For the stay you can choose whether to sleep in the Coachella campsite or in a hotel or a villa, as I did, in the nearby Palm Springs. I say it’s hard to give up for a whole weekend at a private bathroom. From Palm Springs there is a shuttle service (you will have to pay for it) to go back and forth from the festival. But the main reason for choosing Palm Springs is this one: for the events. Parties start late in the morning and go on until it’s time to take the shuttle. The best ones this year? I hope you have seen them on my Instagram Stories @robertoderosa! They were the party for the announcement of the next Moschino x H&M collaboration, the one at the Furla Mansion and the Levi’s Pool Party.

Lineup. Quest’anno il festival è stato soprannominato Beychella. Queen Beyoncè ha regalato una performance immensa, memorabile. Mi sento più che fortunato di poter dire: io c’ero. Rivedere le Destiny’s Childs riunite, poi, è stato come fare un tuffo indietro ai tempi della mia adolescenza. Quello di Eminem era l’altro concerto che non vedevo l’ora di ascoltare, immenso anche lui, e poi ci sono stati The Weeknd, Kygo, SZA, Haim e, tra i miei preferiti in assoluto, gli Odesza.

Lineup. This year the festival has been nicknamed Beychella. Queen Beyoncè was huge, a memorable performance. I feel more than lucky to be able to say: I was there. Eminem’s was the other concert that I could not wait to hear, too, and then there were The Weeknd, Kygo, SZA, Haim and, among my favorites, Odesza.

Un’isola tra le più interessanti, varie ed affascinanti in cui sia mai stato. L’occasione? Il matrimonio di una mia carissima amica che, decidendo di sposarsi lì durante quello che per noi in Italia era il ponte di Pasqua, mi ha dato l’opportunità di organizzare il viaggio. L’itinerario? Il mio prevedeva cinque giorni in giro per Bali. Non erano molti (onestamente sarei rimasto almeno altri cinque), ma sono stati assolutamente sufficienti per visitarla. Ho potuto ammirare molti dei suoi incredibili siti culturali e storici e dei suoi parchi naturali, oltre alle sue spiagge, prevalentemente adatte al surf.

Among the most interesting, various and fascinating island I have ever been to. Why did I go there? To attend the wedding of a dear friend of mine who decided to get married there during the Easter holidays, giving me the opportunity to organize the trip. What did I see? I framed my itinerary in five days around Bali. They were not so many (honestly I would have stayed there for at least five other days), but they were absolutely enough to visit it. I was able to admire many of its incredible cultural and historical sites and its natural parks, in addition to the beaches, mainly suitable for surfing.

Per raggiungere Bali ho volato ancora una volta con Qatar Airways sulla tratta Milano Malpensa per Denpasar via Doha. Dal wi-fi a bordo al menù gluten free, viaggiare con loro è super!

To reach Bali, I flew together again with Qatar Airways  on the route from Milan Malpensa to Denpasar via Doha. From the on board wi-fi connection to the gluten free menù, traveling with them is amazing!

Il mio itinerario a Bali è partito da Canggu, una delle località costiere più note ai surfisti. Se lo sport non fa per voi, potete sempre rilassarvi a bordo piscina in uno dei tantissimi resort o degli appartamenti in affitto (che spesso hanno la piscina privata): non c’è che l’imbarazzo della scelta da quelle parti!

My Bali itinerary started from Canggu, one of the most famous surf spot. If this kind of sport is not for you, you can always relax by the pool in one of the many resorts or apartments (which often have a private swimming pool): you’ll be spoilt for choice!

Vi consiglio di provare la colazione da Nook: questo locale è completamente immerso nella natura circostante, con una vista panoramica a trecentosessanta gradi sui lussureggianti campi coltivati a riso. Ancora più importante, la qualità del cibo: l’Açai Bowl che mi hanno servito era semplicemente deliziosa.

I recommend yo to have breakfast at Nook: this place is completely immersed in the surrounding nature, with a three hundred and sixty degrees panoramic view on the lush rice fields. More importantly, the quality of the food: the Açai Bowl they served me was simply delicious.

Tra le cose da vedere assolutamente a Bali c’è sicuramente la località di Ubud. E Canggu è un punto d’appoggio perfetto, se avete poco tempo, per organizzare una escursione in giornata: in poco meno di due ore di macchina raggiungerete il centro green dell’isola. Qui potrete fare una passeggiata panoramica all’interno di una delle risaie più belle al mondo, Tegallalang Rice Terrace.

Among the things to see absolutely in Bali there is certainly Ubud. And Canggu is a perfect foothold, if you have little time, to organize a day trip: in less than two hours drive you will reach the green center of the island. Here you can take a scenic walk inside one of the most beautiful rice fields in the world, Tegallalang Rice Terrace.

E poi potete proseguirla dentro la Sacred Monkey Forest, dove vi accoglierà una famiglia extra large di scimmiette ladre!

Then you can continue walking in the Sacred Monkey Forest, where an extra large family of thieving monkeys will welcome you!

Al mio ritorno a Canggu era ora di cena e sono stato in un ristorante sulla spiaggia che si chiama La Brisa. Anche questo super consigliato, soprattutto per l’atmosfera.

On my way back to Canggu it was dinner time and I went to a beach restaurant called La Brisa. Also this is super recommended.

Altro ristorante che vi consiglio, questa volta per il brunch, è Sea Circus (nella vicina località di Seminyak). Ho ordinato un ottimo avocado gluten free toast e un ice jasmine tea!

Another restaurant that I recommend, this time for brunch, is called Sea Circus (in the nearby town of Seminyak). I ordered a super delicious avocado gluten free toast and an ice jasmine tea!

Il Sea Circus si trova a pochi passi dalla spiaggia di Seminyak, così ne approfittato per esplorarla.

The Sea Circus is just a few steps from Seminyak beach, so you can take the opportunity to explore it.

Sono poi sceso nella penisola di Nusa Dua, nel Sud di Bali, e più precisamente ad Uluwatu per il matrimonio di Jenifer e June. Khayangan Estate è la location da loro scelta per il ricevimento, che è stato emozionante quanto magico!

I then went down to the Nusa Dua Peninsula, in the South of Bali, and more precisely to Uluwatu to celebrate Jenifer and June’s wedding day. Khayangan Estate is the location they chose, and it was so emotional and magical!

Da vedere assolutamente ad Uluwatu c’è uno dei templi induisti di Bali più spettacolari. La sua posizione è mozzafiato: si trova sulla cima di una scogliera a picco sul mare.

Absolutely worth seeing in Uluwatu is one of Bali’s most spectacular Hindu temples. Its position is breathtaking: it is located on the top of a cliff overlooking the sea.

Chi mi segue su Instagram (@robertoderosa) sa che sono da poco rientrato dal mio ultimo viaggio a Dubai. E’ stata la mia terza visita della città dei record, che questa volta ho avuto l’opportunità di visitare a tutto tondo e di conoscerne le sue mille sfaccettature.

It was my third visit to the record-breaking city (the running joke in Dubai is that it holds the world record for being the city with the most world records), that this time I had the opportunity to visit all around and to see in its many facets.

Tutto a Dubai è lusso sfrenato ed è pensato per soddisfare le più esigenti richieste dei suoi visitatori. Dormire in una camera con vista sul grattacielo più alto del mondo?

Everything in Dubai is unbridled luxury and is designed to satisfy the most demanding requests of its visitors. Sleeping in a room overlooking the tallest skyscraper in the world?

Si può, basta soggiornare in uno dei molti hotel a 5 stelle che si trovano nell’area circostante. Io ho dormito all’Hotel Address Dubai Mall: da qui si può addirittura fare il bagno con vista sul grattacielo più alto del mondo!

Absolutely possible! There are many 5-star hotels in the surrounding area where you can make a reservation for then night. I stayed at the Address Dubai Mall: from here you can even take a bubble bath overlooking the tallest skyscraper in the world!

Dalla mia camera si vedeva non solo il Burj Al Khalifa, ma la skyline completa.

From my room you could admire not only the Burj Al Khalifa, but the complete skyline.

Il primo giorno a Dubai sono ovviamente salito On the top, al 148esimo piano del grattacielo più alto mai costruito dall’uomo (829,8 metri di altezza, compresa l’antenna), aperto dal 2010. Per salirci bisogna, ovviamente, prendere l’ascensore più veloce del mondo (che sale ad una velocità di 64km orari). Il nome, Burj Khalifa, è stato scelto in onore dell’attuale Emiro di Abu Dhabi, a cui è stata dedicata la torre. Vi consiglio di non perdervi assolutamente questa esperienza così adrenalinica se decidete di visitare Dubai.

On my first day in Dubai I obviously climbed On the top, exactly on the 148th floor of the tallest skyscraper ever built by man (829.8 meters high, including the antenna), open since 2010. To get there you obviously need to take the world’s fastest lift (which climbs at a speed of 64 km per hour). The name, Burj Khalifa, was chosen in honor of the current Emir of Abu Dhabi, to whom the tower was dedicated. I suggest you not to miss this adrenaline-fueled experience if you decide to visit Dubai.

L’area che comprende il Burj Khalifa è immensa ed ha il nome di Dubai Mall. Oltre ad ospitare il più grande centro commerciale del mondo (1200 negozi circa), comprende anche la fontana più grande del mondo (che ogni sera offre uno spettacolo mozzafiato con i suoi getti che si alzano fino a 150 metri di altezza) un cinema multisala, una pista da pattinaggio su ghiaccio e l’acquario sospeso più grande del mondo (che ospita oltre 30mila animali marini). Un primato dietro l’altro, per lasciare stupefatti i propri visitatori.

The area that includes the Burj Khalifa is huge and has the name of Dubai Mall. In addition to hosting the largest shopping center in the world (1200 shops), it also includes the largest fountain in the world (which every evening offers a breathtaking show with its jets that rise up to 150 meters) a multiplex cinema, an ice-skating rink and the world’s largest suspended aquarium (hosting over 30,000 marine animals). The city includes one record after another, to leave their visitors amazed.

Sembra impossibile ma a non molti chilometri di distanza è possibile vedere una Dubai completamente differente. E’ quella del distretto Al Fahidi, nota come Old Dubai: la parte più storica della città, dove gli edifici in gesso e corallo sono stati restaurati e riportati alla loro gloria originale usando autentici materiali dell’epoca. All’interno del forte c’è il Museo di Dubai, che illustra come era la vita dei commercianti che all’epoca la abitavano. Tutto il distretto è costellato da gallerie d’arte e da souk di ogni specie.
E’ possibile osservare tutto questo navigando sul Creek a bordo di una tipica imbarcazione di legno che si chiama Abra.

It seems impossible but not many kilometers away you can see a completely different Dubai. It is Al Fahidi district, known as Old Dubai: the most historic part of the city, where the plaster and coral buildings have been restored using authentic materials of the time. Inside the fort there is the Dubai Museum, which illustrates how the life of the merchants who at the time lived there was. The whole district is dotted with art galleries and souks of all kinds.
It is possible to observe all this by sailing on the Creek on board a typical wooden boat called Abra.

Da Gennaio di quest’anno ha aperto un nuova attrazione da record. Si chiama Dubai Frame ed è un vero capolavoro di ingegneria: si tratta di una struttura di vetro e acciaio con un ponte panoramico che permette di ammirare la città da 150 metri di altezza!

Since last January it has opened a new record-breaking attraction. It is called Dubai Frame and is a true engineering masterpiece: it is a glass and steel structure with a panoramic bridge that allows you to admire the city from 150 meters high!

Dubai è anche spiaggia. Ho visitato per primo La Mer, quartiere di quasi 2,5 km di tranquille spiagge di sabbia fine e un lungomare costellato da palme, ristoranti e negozi.

Dubai has to offer also many many beaches. I first visited La Mer, a neighborhood of almost 2.5 km of quiet sandy beaches and a promenade lined with palm trees, restaurants and shops.

Altro quartiere a bordo oceano è Dubai Marina. Anche qui è possibile fare una lunga passeggiata costeggiando il litorale oppure rilassarsi in una delle tante spiagge attrezzate e non.

Another neighborhood on the ocean is Dubai Marina. Even here it is possible to take a long walk along the coast or relax in one of the many equipped and non-equipped beaches.

Per pranzo mi sono spostato da Demoiselle By Galvin che si trova lungo il City Walk. L’area così denominata è un vero e proprio centro commerciale a cielo aperto, con il suo mix di negozi e locali di alto livello, situati in una location unica, dall’aria europeggiante.

For lunch I went to Demoiselle By Galvin which is located along the City Walk. The so called area is a real open-air shopping center, with its mix of shops and high-end boutiques, located in a unique place, with a European vibe.

Parlando di food, un altro locale che ho apprezzato moltissimo a Dubai si chiama Comptoir 102: si tratta di un concept store che vende abbigliamento, accessori, gioielli e oggetti di arredamento in un’atmosfera elegante ma accogliente. C’è inoltre un Healthy Cafè che offre smoothie e piatti realizzati con prodotti a km zero.

Sono appena rientrato dalla Thailandia. Un paese che da sempre mi affascinava e che ora, grazie a Qatar Airways, ho avuto la l’opportunità di scoprire. Il mio è stato un tour abbastanza inedito: la Thailandia è enorme, e nei miei 5 giorni mi sono concentrato sulla zona occidentale dal paese. Partendo dall’estremo Nord di Chiang Mai ho tagliato l’intero paese in direzione Sud, fino alla spiaggia di Pattaya.

Ho volato su Milano Malpensa con scalo a Doha prima di raggiungere Chiang Mai, prima tappa dei miei 5 giorni in Thailandia. Ad accogliermi al mio arrivo la mattina presto un piacevolissima temperatura di 28°C ed il mio primo massaggio thai, perfetto per tonificare i muscoli dopo il lungo volo. Dopo il massaggio partiamo alla scoperta dei templi. Wat Umong, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Wat Kedkaram, Wat Chiang Man, Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Pra Singha e infine Wat Srisupan sono solo alcuni dei 300 templi che la città ospita, e sicuramente tra quelli più maestosi. Una full immersion nella cultura di questo paese, tra usanze e tradizioni.

I’m back from Thailand. A country that has always fascinated me and that now, thanks to Qatar Airways, I had the opportunity to discover. I did kind of an unusual tour: Thailand is huge, and in my 5 days I focused on the western part of the country. Starting from the far north of Chiang Mai, I went down to Pattaya beach.

I flew from Milan Malpensa with a stopover in Doha before reaching Chiang Mai, the first stop of my 5 days in Thailand. To welcome me on my arrival early in the morning a pretty good temperature (28° C) and my first thai massage, perfect for toning the muscles after the long flight. Shortly after we left to discover the temples. Wat Umong, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Wat Kedkaram, Wat Chiang Man, Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Pra Singha and finally Wat Srisupan are just some of the 300 temples that the city hosts, and certainly among the most majestic ones. A full immersion in the culture of this country, between its customs and traditions.

A pranzo vedevo l’ora di assaggiare uno dei piatti tipici della cucina thailandese: il pad thai, che ora è diventato il mio nuovo cibo preferito. Per la cronaca, si tratta di un piatto gluten-free: spaghetti di riso saltati con verdure, germogli di soia, uova e poi a scelta pollo, gamberetti oppure tofu.

Il giorno successivo è dedicato alla scoperta della comunità di Baan Pong-Huai Lan Village. Si trova a circa 25 km dalla città di Chiang Mai: svetta tra le colline ed è circondata da coltivazioni di riso. Un luogo di straordinaria bellezza, ma non solo. Nel 2012 è stata premiata come “Sufficient Economy” ovvero come comunità economica autosufficiente, grazie ad progetto di sviluppo con cui il re ha fornito agli abitanti del villaggio fonti sostenibili di cibo, reddito e conoscenza. E’ così diventata un modello di turismo per tutto il paese: qui è possibile vivere proprio come i locali, scoprendo le loro abitudini alimentari, come coltivano la terra e i loro usi e costumi.

At lunch time I couldn’t wait more to taste one of the typical dishes of Thai cuisine: pad thai, which has now become my new favorite food. For the record, it is a gluten-free dish: rice noodles sautéed with vegetables, sprouts, eggs and then a choice of chicken, shrimps or tofu.

The next day was dedicated to visit the community of Baan Pong-Huai Lan Village. It is located about 25 km from the city of Chiang Mai: it stands out among the hills and is surrounded by rice fields. A place of extraordinary beauty, but not only. In 2012 it was rewarded as “Sufficient Economy” thanks to a royal development project which provided the inhabitants of the village with sustainable sources of food, income and knowledge. It has thus become a model of tourism for the whole country: here it is possible to live just like the locals, discovering their habits, how they grow vegetables and how their everyday life looks like.

Il terzo giorno ci spostiamo a Lampang. Qui vi consiglio di non perdervi il giro della città a bordo delle tipiche carrozze trainata da cavalli, sicuramente più divertente e caratteristico che il giro in auto. Situata nel bacino del fiume Wang, la zona offre panorami meravigliosi ma anche tante attrazioni culturali. E’ infatti ricca di testimonianze archeologiche e architettoniche che evidenziano l’influenza di civiltà antichissime. Una perfetta combinazione di cultura e natura.

On the third day we moved to Lampang. Here I suggest not to miss the tour of the city on board the typical horse-drawn carriages, certainly more fun and characteristic than the ride by car. Located in the Wang River basin, the area offers wonderful views but also many cultural attractions. It is in fact rich in archaeological and architectural evidence that highlight the influence of ancient civilizations. A perfect combination of culture and nature.

Tra i luoghi che mi hanno colpito di più nell’intero viaggio c’è sicuramente il maestoso tempio Wat Chalerm Phra Kiat. Si trova sulla cima del monte Pu Yak, arroccato tra cielo e montagne. Per raggiungerlo occorre avere la pazienza di salire una lunga scalinata in ferro, con circa 800 metri di dislivello. Una volta raggiunta la vetta si è subito ripagati dalla pace e dalla tranquillità che il luogo ispira. Che si sia religiosi o no, la visita vale decisamente la pena.

Among the places that have impressed me the most in this entire trip there is certainly the majestic temple called Wat Chalerm Phra Kiat. It is located on the top of Mount Pu Yak, perched between sky and mountains. To reach it you need to have the patience to climb a long iron staircase, about 800 meters in altitude. Once you reach the summit you are immediately rewarded by the peace and tranquility that the place inspires. Whether you are religious or not, a visit is definitely worth it.

Quarto giorno, quarta tappa. Torniamo a Chiang Mai per prendere il volo per Bangkok, dove non ci fermiamo (purtroppo, ma non c’era proprio il tempo) perché ci dirigiamo subito a Pattaya.

Nel pomeriggio visitiamo il monumentale Santuario della Verità, il tempio in continuo divenire. La struttura è interamente realizzata in legno lavorato a mano da artisti che ogni giorno da oltre vent’anni proseguono l’opera. Tanti i simboli che si possono ammirare intagliati: angeli, dei, animali e figure mitologiche che rappresentano ed invocano equilibrio ed armonia nel mondo. L’interno è ancora più suggestivo della facciata esterna, se possibile.

Fourth day, fourth stop. We returned to Chiang Mai to take the flight to Bangkok, where we didn’t stop (unfortunately, but there was not enough time) because we head immediately to Pattaya.

In the afternoon we visited the monumental Sanctuary of Truth, the ever-changing temple. The structure is entirely made of hand-crafted wood by artists who have been continued the work every day for over twenty years. So many symbols can be admired carved there: angels, gods, animals and mythological figures that represent and invoke balance and harmony in the world. The interior is even more impressive than the external façade, if possible.

Siamo giunti all’ultimo giorno prima della partenza. Una intera giornata di relax, sole e mare sull’isola di Koh Larn… Mi sono abbronzato in fretta!

The last day before departure was a day of relaxation, sun and sea on the beautiful island of Koh Larn … I got tanned fast!

Pattaya è famosa per la night life. Ci sono moltissimi locali tra i quali l’Alcazar, dove si può assistere a coloratissimi spettacoli di cabaret e balli locali.

Poche ore dopo mi aspettava il viaggio di ritorno. Ho preso l’aereo direttamente dall’aeroporto di Pattaya: Qatar Airways ha infatti inaugurato da poco la nuova tratta Pattaya-Doha e io sono stato tra i primi a provarla!

Pattaya is famous for night life. There are lots of places to go, including Alcazar where you can watch a very colorful cabaret show.

A few hours later the return journey was waiting for me. I took the plane directly from the airport of Pattaya: Qatar Airways has recently inaugurated a new route from Pattaya to Doha and I was among the first to try it!
