Come vi ho anticipato nel post di ieri (potete leggerlo cliccando qui!), durante il mio ultimo viaggio in Cina sono finalmente riuscito a vedere la capitale, che volevo tanto visitare. Da sempre amante della cultura orientale, ho visto un mio sogno diventare realtà. E sono rimasto a bocca aperta!

Trascorrere anche solo 48 ore a Pechino sono state sufficienti per farmi innamorare della città. Ho scelto di dormire in una zona centralissima, per non perdere tempo con gli spostamenti nel traffico incessante che caratterizza questa, come ogni, metropoli cinese. Il Raffle Hotel, via TheLuxeNomad.com, si trova infatti a pochi minuti a piedi dai principali luoghi-simbolo della città. Il primo giorno, dopo un rapido sguardo al recente Egg Building (il palazzo a forma di uovo che ospita l’Opera di Pechino), ho visitato l’immensa Piazza Tienanmen. Prima ho virato verso Nord addentrandomi nella Città Proibita (un tempo residenza dell’Imperatore). Il più grande complesso di palazzi al mondo, perfettamente conservati. Indescrivibile la sensazione di trovarsi in una città al tempo stesso tanto conservatrice quanto proiettata verso il futuro. Al di fuori delle mura della Città Proibita, si snodano una serie di vicoli, gli Hutong, che costituiscono un quartiere altrettanto storico della città, dove vivevano infatti gli antichi abitanti di Pechino. Caseggiati bassi, perlopiù negozietti e ristoranti, dove ho deciso di concedermi una meritata pausa pranzo. Ricaricate le energie, ho ripreso il cammino scendendo verso la zona Sud di Piazza Tienanmen, dove si trova il Tempio del Cielo (un tempo luogo sacro in cui veniva officiato il culto appunto del Cielo, la principale divinità della religione tradizionale cinese). Mentre torno verso l’hotel, si è fatta l’ora del tramonto in Piazza Tienamen e riesco per caso ad assistere al cambio della guardia. Dopo una rapida doccia, esco nuovamente alla volta di Sanlitun, per cenare insieme ad alcuni amici gustando buonissimi piatti tipici cinesi… La serata si conclude bevendo un drink in uno dei tanti rooftop bar del quartiere, ammirando la moltitudine delle luci della città.

Pechino è sicuramente una città che va vista almeno una volta nella vita… A domani con il post sul mio secondo giorno a Pechino e le foto della Muraglia Cinese!

First post of my Beijing Diary! During my last trip to China I finally managed to see the capital city. Ever since I was a child, I have always wanted to visit it. 

48 hours in Beijing was enough to make me fall in love with the city. I decided to book a hotel in the very city centre, ’cause I didn’t want to waste time sitting in traffic. The Raffle Hotel, via TheLuxeNomad.com, is located only a few minutes away from the main attractions. On the first day, after a quick look at the recent Egg Building (the egg-shaped building that houses the Beijing Opera), I visited the gigantic Tiananmen Square. First of all I went North, inside the Forbidden City (the former home of the Emperor). This consist in the largest palace complex in the world, perfectly preserved. I can’t explain how impressive is being in a city at the same time conservative and forward-looking. Outside the walls of the Forbidden City, there are a series of alleys, the Hutong, which form another historic district of the city, where the ancient inhabitants of Beijing used to live. Then, after a deserved lunch break, I walked to the South area of Tiananmen Square, where is located the Temple of Heaven (a complex of religious building which used to host annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven, the main divinity of the traditional Chinese religion). As I was returning to the hotel, the sun set in Tiananmen Square and I had the chance to see the shift change in the guard. After a quick shower I headed to Sanlitun, to have dinner with some friends and eat some traditional Chinese dishes… I spent the rest of the night drinking a cocktail in one of the rooftop bars of the neighborhood.

Beijing is definitely a city that a city that everyone should visit before they die… See you tomorrow with a new post about my second day in Beijing!

Nuovo mese, nuovo viaggio. Lo sapete che ho la sindrome da wanderlust. Questa volta sono tornato in un altro dei miei luoghi del cuore, la Cina.

Come vi avevo anticipato nel post precedente (se volete leggerlo, cliccate qui!) sono in viaggio per tutta la settimana in un Paese che mi ha dato moltissimo, non solo nel lavoro ma più che altro nei rapporti con le persone. Ora mi trovo a Shanghai e sto per ripartire alla volta di Pechino.

A Shanghai ero già stato durante il mio soggiorno cinese dello scorso anno, e vi avevo trascorso attimi di puro divertimento. E’ una città semplicemente meravigliosa e dalle mille anime diverse. Ora che sono tornato, respiro di nuovo quell’aria, caldissima, inebriante di energia, che mi fa sentire vitale. Il periodo migliore per visitare Shanghai è proprio questo. Ho deciso di alloggiare al mio hotel preferito URBN Hotel via TheLuxeNomad. In primavera le temperature si aggirano tra i 18° e i 22° centigradi, quindi è possibile girovagare per la città più popolosa del mondo, lasciandosi trasportare dalla corrente delle persone che ci abitano e/o che, come me, hanno la fortuna di visitarla. Il tutto senza soffocare troppo per l’umidità. Riuscendo a godere di ogni scorcio che la città offre. Come il Tempio Jing’an che vedete in queste foto. Un luogo perfetto per godersi un momento di pace nel vortice della città.

Nel decidere il look del mio primo giorno a Shanghai, ho optato per capi che mi facessero sentire allo stesso tempo comodo per girare la città ed elegante quanto basta per presentarmi ai miei appuntamenti di lavoro. Un look comfy chic composto da un paio di scarpe da vela, un paio di pantaloni leggeri di cotone e una giacca di jeans, fedelmente Levi’s, personalizzata con patch applicate sulla schiena. A presto con un nuovo look da Pechino!

New month, new journey. You know I’m addicted to wanderlust. This time I came back to another place that holds my heart. China.

As I told you in my previous post (if you want to read it, click here!) this week I’m traveling in and around China, a country I literally felt in love with. I am currently in Shanghai but I’am about to leave for Beijing.

Last year I spent few days in Shanghai and it was so much fun. It’s a wonderful city with thousand different souls. Now that I’m back here, I feel so vital. The best time to visit Shanghai is now. I decided to stay at Urbn Hotel via TheLuxeNomad, this is my favorite hotel in the hip neighborhood of Shanghai. In spring, temperatures average between 62 and 75 Fahrenheit degrees, so you can wander around the most populous city in the world, going with the flow of the people who live and who are – like me – lucky enough to visit it. Breathing (thanks to the decreased humidity). Enjoying every view that the city offers. Like the Jing’an Temple you see in the pictures below. This temple is the perfect place to enjoy a moment of calm in the chaos of the city.

For the look of my first day in Shanghai, I opted for some pieces of clothing that made me feel at the same time comfortable but elegant enough to attend my business meetings. So I wore this comfy chic look, which consists in a pair of boat shoes, light cotton pants and a Levi’s denim jacket customized by me, with patches applied on the back.
